How Quality Physical Activity Enhances Learning

What happens when we apply neuroscience to physical education? Academic achievement! As a pioneer of the Naperville, Illinois, P.E. program, Coach Paul Zientarski says it is important for all educators to understand the neuroscience of the brain. This is a subject not often studied by professionals who make decisions on educational practices. This presentation will attempt to demystify the neuroscience and inform the audience on the importance of quality Physical Education and recess in the learning process. The audience will also learn how active classrooms enhance education and allow students to be better engaged in the learning process. Naperville made physical education fun, inviting, and self-sustaining for lifelong fitness. This case study demonstrates not only that such change improves P.E. but also that getting a kid to measure against her/his own benchmarks, using heart rate monitors, improves academics.
