For a deep dive into Arts, Culture and Transportation: A Creative Placemaking Field Scan, register now for the live webinar discussion happening on October 13, 2017 from 1:00-2:00 pm EDT. Youâ??ll hear from Ben Stone, Director of Arts & Culture at Transportation for America, Jamie Hand, Director of Research Strategies at ArtPlace America, who will discuss the newly released ArtPlace Transportation Field Scan, the impetus behind ArtPlace’s research strategies work, the goals of the field scan, and lessons learned from months of examining the role of arts and culture in transportation projects. Peter Svarzbein, an artist and El Paso City Council member, will join the discussion to discuss his El Paso Transnational Trolley project. Svarzbein’s story is one example of how transportation professionals are exploring new, creative, and contextually-specific approaches to planning and building transportation projects. They are collaborating with artists and the community in new ways to transform transportation systems into powerful tools to help people access opportunity, drive economic development, improve health and safety, and build the civic and social capital that binds communities together. This project is just one of the many case studies featured in our field scan, which is intended to examine the ways in which arts and culture are helping to solve transportation challenges while engaging the community in a more inclusive process.
