The Laurie M. Tisch Center for Food, Education & Policy, Teachers College Columbia University (Tisch Food Center) is launching a new initiative called the WELL (Wellness, Equity & Learning Legislation) Campaign. It promotes a state-level policy approach that will:
Make New York the first state in the nation to have a model local wellness policy in law. The development of this model policy would be community and stakeholder drivenâ??resulting in a framework that reflects statewide priorities while being adaptable to local needs and realities.
Maximize recent state investments in childrenâ??s wellbeing, connecting the dots between state priorities for health, education, food access, and farm to school.
Promote health equity through targeted resources and supports for struggling schools.
Build in monitoring and reporting, to ensure that policies are transparent, accessible, and relevant for schools and communities.
For more information, please see the attached summary of the project.
During this webinar we will a) review the background and details of the WELL Campaign, b) discuss how it aligns with the Creating Healthy Schools and Community initiative, and c) ask for your feedback on the policy framework based on your on the ground experience working on local wellness policy.
